PROJECT INFORMATION

This case study profiles the digital delivery of a world-first in sports infrastructure: a 40,000-seat mega-stadium constructed utilizing modular shipping containers and a recyclable steel framework. Designed to be completely demountable and scalable post-tournament, the 93,200 square meter landmark required unprecedented MEP engineering foresight. The fast-tracked project demanded a digital workflow capable of balancing high-capacity stadium utility loads with the spatial constraints of a modular container layout.


Draftech led the specialized BIM coordination and model validation for the critical building services driving the facility.

WHAT WE DID

Draftech was appointed to lead the digital delivery, quality control, and standard enforcement across the primary MEP disciplines. Recognizing that standard modeling workflows would fail under the constraints of a demountable structure, we developed custom Revit project templates embedded with strict parameter schemas. These templates ensured that all incoming asset data rigidly adhered to project standards from day one.


Instead of treating the services as permanent installations, Draftech strategically managed the BIM environment to prioritize modularity. We engineered standard operating procedures for clash detection within Navisworks, allowing the coordination team to audit complex runs continuously. This high-level technical management shifted the focus from standard 3D modeling to data-driven spatial optimization, ensuring all MEP systems seamlessly integrated into the modular container frames.


OVERCOME CHALLENGES

The primary technical bottleneck stemmed from the project's unique architectural paradigm: routing heavy infrastructure through a rigid grid of shipping containers, combined with the mandate that the entire asset must be scaled down or completely decoupled post-tournament. Traditional routing would have rendered the stadium permanent, trapping services across structural splits.


Draftech resolved this by designing highly strategic MEP routings engineered specifically for future decoupling. Leveraging our custom Revit templates, we aligned system segmentations and joint locations precisely with the container boundaries and structural disconnection zones. By running aggressive, multi-discipline clash detection matrices, we isolated and resolved thousands of spatial conflicts before fabrication. This meticulous coordination ensured that massive mechanical ducts, piping networks, and electrical trays could be efficiently unbolted and segmented when the facility was deconstructed—safeguarding the project’s historic sustainability targets.
